The Kasbah is
perched on a great rock outcrop above the main village with panoramic views
of the mountains, valleys and waterfalls. It is reached by a short walk (15
mn) or mule ride from the village of Imlil. Imlil, 65 km from Marakech in
the Ait Mizane Valley, is the starting point for the trek up Jbel Toubkal
(4165 m) the highest mountain in North Africa. So impressive is the scenery
that film director Martin Scorsese chose Imlil as one of the locations for
Kundun, his film about the Dalai Lama, temporarily transforming the Kasbah
into a Tibetan monastery. |
